Our Surf lessons are tailored to the individual and are perfect for any age or skill level. From the first timer who has never set foot in the ocean before, to coaching the pros! Our instructors have both professional lifeguard AND professional surf competition experience in the ISA World Surfing Games. About Our Lessons
Your surf lesson will include 90 minutes to two hours of instruction, We start off introducing you to the surfing environment along with an overview of the equipment and surf safety tips. First you will learn the basics of surfing including surf board anatomy and how to handle the board, wave management, paddle -out and pop-up techniques. We will practice on the beach a few times and then it's out into the water with your instructor to hone your skills! Our Surf lessons are taught by professional and experienced instructors. Leo Merchan, Lead Instructor
Leo is a professional surfer originally from the Pacific Coast of Ecuador. He has competed in three ISA World Surfing Games competitions as a part of the National Surf Team of Ecuador. He also won an Olympic Committee Bronze Medal in Longboard at the Bolivarian Games in 2009. Leo is a certified lifeguard and former member of the Tybee Island Ocean Rescue team.
The founder of Tybee Surf School, Unkle Jimmy is a local surfing legend who spent years in Hawaii, honing his surf chops before returning home to Tybee Island to launch his own surf school.
